  3. Domestic Violence: Understanding the Data and Policy

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. In recognition of victims and survivors, the Council on Criminal Justice (CCJ) is releasing new research on the crime and hosting a webinar examining how domestic violence influences women’s pathways into the criminal justice system—and what stakeholders are doing about it.

Join experts from the Council on Criminal Justice Women’s Justice Commission (WJC) and Crime Trends Working Group (CTWG) as we unpack the research and highlight opportunities related to women’s justice involvement and domestic violence. Speakers include:

  • Emily Salisbury, associate professor of social work at the University of Utah, director of the Utah Criminal Justice Center and WJC commissioner
  • Marium Durrani, vice president of policy at the National Domestic Violence Hotline and expert adviser
  • Alex Piquero, professor of sociology and criminology at the University of Miami, former director of the Bureau of Justice Statistics, and CTWG senior adviser

The conversation will be followed by a Q&A.
