DESCRIPTION:Since 1981\, National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW) has challenged the Nation to confront and remove barriers to achieving justice for all victims of crime. During NCVRW\, we recognize the accomplishments of the victims’ rights movement and reflect on how far we have come. \nEvery April\, the Office of Justice Program’s Office for Victims of Crime leads communities throughout the country in their annual observances of NCVRW. Together\, we will commemorate NCVRW April 19–25\, 2026.

SUMMARY:Vital Subjects: The Intersections of Animal Abuse\, Interpersonal Violence\, and Child Abuse
DESCRIPTION:This Vital Subjects webinar is designed to educate participants about the unique challenges faced by victims who have pets; the correlation between animal abuse\, interpersonal violence\, and child abuse; and the importance of providing safe havens for both humans and their pets. \nThe webinar will highlight the critical role that pet shelters\, such as Noah’s Animal House (a 2019 CNN Top Ten Hero)\, play in supporting survivors of interpersonal violence. This training is ideal for professionals working in domestic violence shelters\, animal welfare organizations\, child advocacy centers\, social services\, and law enforcement. \nParticipants will be able to: \n\nExplain the correlation between animal abuse and interpersonal violence\, and how it impacts both human and animal victims.\nDescribe at least two best practices for integrating pet-friendly policies and facilities into domestic violence shelters to ensure the safety and well-being of both survivors and their pets.\n\nThe webinar will be held April 22\, 2026 at 2:00pm ET/1:00 pm CT.
